An Accountant in the retail industry will be responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and providing insights to support business decisions. This role involves maintaining comprehensive financial records, preparing detailed financial reports, and analysing financial data to enhance the company’s financial performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and experience in a dynamic retail environment.

  • Bachelor of Accounting Degree or any other recognised financial qualification.
  • 1 – 5 years similar working experience or related industry.
  • Good accounting background evidenced by work history and qualification.
  • Balance sheet experience with basic VAT/tax and financial control knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and multitask skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with an ERP system.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts.
  • Responsible for ensuring all accounting and reporting deadlines are adhered to and produce timely and accurate financial information in accordance with stated policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely accounting for financial transactions, including the production of routine month-end reports ensuring compliance with applicable accounting, tax, legislative and other regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the preparation and completion of month end procedures.
  • Responsible for creditors, which includes monthly reconciliations and first release of payments.
  • Effective management of creditors to ensure effective utilisation of working capital, maximisation of credit terms and settlement discounts and rebates.
  • Monthly general ledger updates, investigations, and preparation of the reconciliation file for review.
  • Ensure all policies and processes adhere to the Minimum Control Framework.
  • Assisting other managers with the financial management of their departments.
  • Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Maintenance of company fixed asset register including IT equipment.
  • Responsible for administration of foreign currency transactions.
